By default, CorelDraw’s Powerclip is auto-center. This means that when you powerclip an object , it will automatically shift to the center of the main object (container). This setting requires you to manually shift the position of the power clipped object (content) to the desired location by editing the content of the power clip.

To avoid this (and so save time), we have to change the default setting that controls the powerclip.

Go to Tools>Options (above image), a pop up will appear locate the Workspace> Edit tab and click over it and on the right side of it you will find “auto center new PowerClip contents” marked check (image below). Uncheck it, click OK and it’s done.

Useful  CorelDraw Tips and Tricks:

a) SELECTING HIDDEN OBJECTS BEHIND ANOTHER OBJECTS
You can select an object that is hidden behind other objects so that you can edit it. To select a hidden object:
1. Using the Pick tool, select the topmost object behind which the object you want to edit is hidden
2. Press ALT, and click the topmost object again to select the object directly behind it
3. Repeat Step 2 until you have selected the object you want to edit. Watch the Status Bar to see when your object is selected.

b) CREATING A SCRAP FILE OF FREQUENTLY USED OBJECTS
To quickly save a small portion of a file, to be used in another document, drag the item to the Windows desktop. This will create a “scrap”. It can then be dragged into another document. This is a quick way to save an entire page from a multi page document. CorelDRAW uses automatic naming so you can drag other files to the same Windows location (i.e. Desktop) without copying over other files.

c) CREATING A QUICK DUPLICATE
Say you have an image selected and want to create a duplicate of it. Simply hit the (+) Plus key on your numeric Key Pad and a duplicate image will be placed directly on top of the original image

Button is always a part of our hub, it could be formed as square, circle a bar or just a plain text. In this tutorial I will show you how to create a formless glossy button all you need to know is a basic knowledge in pen tool. When it comes to achieving a distinct shape, pen tool is a big help.

Step 1

Create a document with a background of your choice, as for me, the image look more appealing in black or white. By holding the keys together (Shift+Ctrl+N) you’ll get a new layer as result to this command, or just simply click Layer>New>Layer in menu bar. In this layer, look for pentool, using this tool, all you need to do is make a straight line by clicking the first one on the document and click where you want to end the line, you’ll get something like this:

start it like this

Step 2

Now that we have a straight line, we need to close it to make a path. Closing it by clicking the starting anchor point and dragging, this is what I’ve got:

Step 3

Now play around with the pentool, by clicking the path line will add anchor point and dragging it will help you create a shape you want to achieve, here’s mine:

Step 4

All set, in your tools choose the “color picker (foreground color)” select the color of your choice, here’s what I’ve got #078e27. Now, Right Click>Fill Path then OK:

after filling the path, right click then choose delete path to achieve this image

  Step 5

Ok, it’s time for “bevel and emboss”, double click the image layer to show the layer style options, tick the “bevel and emboss” and set the setting to this:

refer to image below. Note: I do not recommend to follow the setting above of ‘bevel and emboss” unless otherwise we have the same shape, close to this deatails may apply to your shape though. You may need to play with the “bevel and emboss’ structure and shading setting to achieve the glossiness of your button.

Step 6

Now that the button is set, adding text is the next step. The text should be a lot darker to the button, mine is #034212. Create a text and duplicate it by dragging the text layer in to the new layer icon in the Layers Pallete. Select the original text layer change the color to white, drag a little bit to right and a bit up, please refer to image below.

Step 7
In the original text layer with white font color, go to Layer>Rasterize>Type then Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur with 1.0px radius. The last thing to do is to set the text layers:

original text layer (white font): Opacity: 50% , Blend mode: Color Dodge

copy text layer (dark green font): Opacity: 70%, Blend Mode: Linear Burn

and you’ll get this result.

For as long as creativity is the limit, you can’t go wrong. Never stop there add more elements and you’ll see what you can do. I just hope that you find this tutorial useful and helpful. Enjoy… Explore… Experiment…

———————-

This tutorial will show you how to create a cartoon illustration of a boy and a dog chasing a frisbee. The knowledge of the tutorial may be used for illustrating children’s stories or making a cover illustration, children’s t-shirts, sticker, or other purposes.

Step 1.

I sarted with a sketch of a boy and his dog running after the frisbee, so it is easier to visualize them and start working in CorelDRAW:

Step 2.

Start drawing a head of the boy:

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw the shape of his hair and face oval (a);

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw the shape of the boy’s cheeks and  nose; select 2 objects: face and cheeks with nose (a); intersect them  (a/Arrange > Shaping > Intersect);

-       Change the color of the intersected object: use Foutain Fill as shown below (b);

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw teeth, nose, brows, and eyes (c);

Draw boy’s eyes:

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw the outer shape on an eye;

-       Draw an oval which is slightly slower than the preciously drawn shape;

-       Select both objects and intersect them (Arrange=>Shaping=>Intersect);

-       Draw a green part of an eye and a pupil the same way;

Step 3.

Drawing ears and details on the face:

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw the shape of the ears (a);

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw lips and chin (b);

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw the shade on the nose, and the  highlight on the right cheek; Use Ellipse Tool to draw holes in the ears  (c);

Step 4.

Drawing the body:

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw the outlines of the neck, hands, legs, shorts, t-shirt, and shoes; color them (a);

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw the right fist and flaps on shorts  (red square- b); draw the shape of the left sole, intersect it with the  left shoe, change the color into a dark grey; draw the shape of the toe  of the right shoe (blue square- b);

-       Draw the shape of the front part of the t-shirt which would  separate the sleeves from the chest part; if the shape goes off the  borders of the t-shirt (a), then select both objects and intersect them;  slightly change the color of the new object (blue square- b);

- Use FreeHand Tool to draw shades and highlights on the neck, t-shirt, shorts, and shoes (c).

Step 5.

Drawing a dog:

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw the shape of the dog’s head, nose;

- Draw the eyes as shown below:

- Use FreeHand Tool to draw body, ears, tail, and legs (to put an object  to front of page: Ctrl+Home; to put an object to back of page:  Ctrl+End);

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw shades and highlights on the nose and legs (red squares);

-       Draw tummy: an oval shape intersect with the dog’s body; change the color into a light brown (blue square);

- Draw a tongue, and shades under the nose and near the right leg, using Intersect command (blue squares):

Step 6.

Drawing Frisbee:

- Use Ellipse Tool or FreeHand Tool to draw 2 ovals like on the picture below; intersect them (Arrange=>Shaping=>Intersect); change the color of the intersected object into a lighter blue:

-       Draw two ovals, select them, Arrange=>Shaping=>Back Minus Front (2);

-       Color the new shape dark blue, copy, and paste it on the frisbee (3);

-       Draw two ovals, select them, Arrange=>Shaping=>Back Minus Front (4);

- Color the new shape black, copy, and paste it next to frisbee, as shown below (5).

Step 7.

Drawing a background:

-       Draw an oval, color it green;

-       Draw the shape of the road (1); intersect in with an oval (2), color it yellow;

-       Use FreeHand Tool to draw a shadow of the dog and the boy (3); intersect it with the road (4);

- Group three objects (Ctrl+G), put to the back of the page (Ctrl+End):

And here is what we have got:
